Throwback: Cold Nights, Caring Hearts: Hanson International Academy gives back to local seniors

Hanson International Academy is a proud member of the New Westminster community and always strives to give back.

For the past three years we have been supporting Coldest Night of the Year, a national fundraiser that supports homeless and vulnerable seniors.

We have been supporting the walk by donating the use of a classroom for registration.

In addition to that, this year we formed our own Hanson Huskies team of staff, instructors and peer mentors who participated in the 5 km walk on February 24/2018.

There was plenty of team spirit on display as our eleven people-strong team braved the snowy New Westminster streets armed with nothing but camaraderie and cheer, and a hot chocolate or two.

Our team’s participation brought in around $400 to this valuable cause and helped make life a little bit easier for the seniors in our community.

And as a way of keeping the spirit of the walk alive after the event, forty students from our corporate social responsibility class wrote heartfelt and thoughtful Easter Cards at the end of March.

They were delivered to individuals partaking in the Seniors Services Society’s Meals on Wheels program. The cards undoubtedly brightened their holiday with messages of encouragement and kindness, as well as anecdotes about our students’ own grandparents whom they miss dearly.

As a token of gratitude, Hanson International Academy received a testimonial and a plaque commemorating our contribution to the walk which raised over $33,000 this year.

We are proud to have played our part in supporting the well-being of our local community and look forward to more outreach opportunities in the future.

Hanson International Academy Testimonial

From Sherilyn Kyle, Seniors Services Society, New Westminster

Sherilyn: Thank you Hanson International Academy for your amazing support of Seniors Services Society’s Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser! After hectic weeks preparing, it was spectacular to know that I could rely on your amazing staff to help prepare and set up for the fundraiser. The classroom space Chris sponsored was exactly what we needed, and Sonja went above and beyond in making sure that everything would run smoothly.  Working with Hanson International Academy was a joy, and having the staff and student come out on event night to support homeless seniors made it that much more special. Thank you!
